Outreach![]() Soup Saturdays - A free meal for the community. Lunch is from 11am-1pm served in our downstairs social room. Soup Saturdays begin February 6 and run through March 27th. Volunteers to make soup and help serve are always welcome. Community Days – Duncansville Community Days is a much-anticipated festival every year in our town. Our church is there to meet new folks and to invite people to find out more about Hicks. Trunk or Treat – a new outreach for us this past year was a great success. We gather at our church on Trick or Treat night in the borough to past out treats and have fun with the community. We also take the opportunity to invite people to worship with us. We already have some good ideas for next Halloween. Prayer Quilt Ministry – a dedicated and skilled team of quilters create beautiful quilts to give to people of the community in need. The team looks to give their quilts to persons in special need of prayer. In each quilt is given with much care and prayer. You can request a quilt for someone you know that may need the encouragement. Mission Hub of Altoona – the Methodist churches of our area support a local arm of Mission Central, our conference mission center in Mechanicsburg. Through the local hub we send flood buckets, supplies, and funds to crisis areas in the United States and around the world. A team from Hicks goes to the hub in Altoona the first Monday of every month. Community Thanksgiving Meal: held the Sunday before thanksgiving, we invite the whole community to join us for a free and delicious thanksgiving meal. This past year we serve approximately one hundred seventy people. Summer Outdoor Movies: a new program started this past summer. We show a movie at our outdoor amphitheatre next to our pavilion on a Saturday night. We provide popcorn, drinks, and a great flick. Last summer was Toy Story 3, The Hereafter, and Despicable Me. We invite everyone to come back on Sunday morning for a talk on themes we saw in the movie we watched. It's all free and its great. Coats and Shoes: We give new coats and shoes to kids in our community whose families are having trouble providing them. We do this in partnership with Foot of Ten Elementary School to ensure confidentiality and that the kids who need it most are receiving help. Hicks Helps: This is the umbrella name for our outreach efforts in the community which include Service Project Days in the Fall and Spring. We rake leaves, cleanup gardens and gutters, plant flowers, pull weeds, wash windows and paint houses. Our aim is that our communities will be better because the church is here. Our Church sponsors other events like Spring Festival and Youth Events to reach our community. In addition we are proud to host a Blair Senior Center, Scout groups, and other community groups at our campus. |
